Drilling reports that are done when the job is
A fiber drilling contractor documented every drilling on paper and then typed it all into a template. Now each drilling is logged from a phone, and the report is finished on the spot.
The starting point
The company drills holes for fiber and works as a subcontractor for larger clients. Every drilling has to be documented in a report that goes to the client.
Before, that happened on paper out in the field. Afterwards, everything had to be typed up in a report template. The same details were handled twice, first with a pen and then on a keyboard. It took time, and every time something was copied there was room for mistakes.
What I built
We built a system where every drilling is logged straight from a phone, on site. Angles, depth, length and the other details get filled in there and then, while they’re fresh.
Because the details are already in the system, there’s no template to fill in afterwards. The report is finished the moment the work is, and can go to the client with no extra work.
The result
The retyping is gone, and with it both the time it took and the room for mistakes. The result is less administration and far fewer headaches day to day.
It’s also a good example of why custom software can pay off. The system is built around how the work actually happens in the field, not around how an off-the-shelf program thinks it happens.
